Ovella Negra (‘Black Sheep’) tells the tale of an orange wine made from two rare and under-appreciated grape varieties grown in the heartland of Penedès, Catalonia. Made from a blend of Garnacha Blanca and Malvasia de Sitges, it marries wildly floral and herbaceous aromatics with a dry and refreshing palate of citrus, ripe green fruits and sweet peach. Farmed organically without the use of chemical additives, it underwent a 14 day maceration ‘on skins’ and aged in inert vats for 6 months on fine lees before being bottled unfined, unfiltered and without any additions of sulphur whatsoever. A fun, unconventional yet utterly drinkable expression of the Penedès heartland, Ovella Negra makes an interesting pairing with fish, poultry and vegetable dishes.
