New Zealand
New Zealand's alcoholic beverage landscape has been heavily influenced by its immigrants. While wine is the mainstay of New Zealand's alcoholic beverage industry, the early Scots immigrants in the lower South Island and the Dalmatians further north, created New Zealand rich history of distilling. In more recent times, with the world-wide growth in Whisky and Gin consumption and brands, New Zealand has been on the front foot and, while there are still only a few whisky distilleries, there are many Gin and Vodka brands as well as a large variety of fruit-based spirits.
One of the most successful NZ spirit brands was 42 Below (vodka) which, through clever funding models and superb marketing, managed to attract an extraordinary sale price of over NZD100M from the large Bacardi Spirits Company .
